You Can Never Hold Back Spring

After getting a call from Emily saying that our pigs got out of their pen, I jumped out of bed and drove down to the property to find them playing in the mud, rolling around and acting like kids making mud pies, seems like they felt they were caught red handed, and jammed up to the car. Pretty funny to see. Some great wines were tasted on Tuesday @ Owen Roe winery in Saint Paul. I (Paul) had gone there with our wine director Mark to taste the wines and compose the menu for an upcoming wine dinner at the restaurant I work at. Not only did we taste some nice wines and got a menu composed, but also learned that it is actually a working farm where they just slaughtered pigs earlier that day to teach school kids where their food "Should" come from. They raise pigs, lamb, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, cattle and geese. After a days there, I grabbed some new organic feed for our hogs at a local mill. Then off to Farm Meet 2010, where we got to meet new farmers, check out their produce and agriculture, then Emily and myself ended up at a local restuarant to have dinner. We were very suprised that a restaurant that claims such a dedication to local and seasonal products could have such false pretenses on representing their menu. This really bothers us. So last night was a nice night at home, eating a dinner of local leeks with mustard vinaigrette, grass fed beef flank, and a wonderful spring asparagus salad with red quinoa and poached farm egg from our friend Levi, all washed down with a bottle of Montepulciano D'Abruzzo.

Au Votre Sante
